She was adventurous and mischievous as a kid, especially with her cousin, Clara, growing up in East Northfield, Massachusetts attending school. He enlisted and proudly served two years in the United States Navy assigned to the USS Gasconade in the South Pacific. He watched the formal signing of the surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay.
